I can't assist with your Windows 7 and Parallels questions. The IGNORE works correctly in OS X Mavericks which is the OS you appear to be running. Choose IGNORE which will turn the text back to BLACK and allow you to initialize the SSD. When you click on the SSD, you will get a prompt to IGNORE or FIX. In Disk Utility while in the Recovery HD, you may see both drives in RED text. This will block-copy your HDD to the SSD which basically clones the Macintosh HD and the Recovery HD over. You have to take everything out of the Mini anyway to get to the upper bay bracket to use the kit.Īs far as migration, after you have installed the drives in the bays you want and assuming you do not have an external SATA enclosure, I would boot into the Recovery HD of the HDD, initialize (format) the SSD via Disk Utility then use the Restore tab in Disk Utility to clone you HDD to your SSD with your HDD as the Source and your SSD as the Destination. With the data doubler kit, you can put the Samsung in the upper bay if you want or move the HDD to the upper bay. If you currently have one drive installed (500GB HDD), it would be in the lower bay.

Can I simply install new drive in the upper bay (and move stock drive to lower bay)? Then migrate the data from the stock drive then after that's complete run the setup for parallels? I am also confused as far as using trim enabler or not? I was also wondering how much space/memory is recommended for windows 7 partition?

I’m not going to elaborate on it.I have ordered the data doubler kit from Owc and am wondering exactly how to setup properly. There are tons of tutorials on Youtube already.
Detaching the Mac Mini takes alot of patience. There you go, now that you have a clone MacOS to the new SSD. It might take a while to restore depending on the data size you have on the Mac Mini. the restore function here basically means cloning. Under Disk Utility, go to “Restore” and HIGHLIGHT the new SSD drive and then SELECT restore from the main hard drive. For those on Windows Keyboard, press “Windows Key + ALT + R” to enter recovery mode as soon as you hear the chime. Once the formatting is done, restart the Mac Mini and press the “Command + R” (Mac Keyboard) to enter recovery mode as soon as you hear the boot up chime. To find out the actual format of the main standard disk drive, highlight the main hard drive and the info will pop up on the right side of the page Mine was AFPS format from the standard disk.
Erase the new SSD to the same format as the main standard disk that comes with the Mac. Do take note, the formatting part here, would be the “Erase” button on Disk Utility. Then, under Mac’s Disk Utility, highlight the new USB external SSD enclosure and perform a format. Basically, you first have to install the Samsung SSD to the hard drive enclosure, to use it as a USB external hard drive. I’ve also purchase a FLUJO USB 3.0 External SSD Hard Drive Enclosure for easy cloning of the existing HDD via the Mac’s built-in app Disk Utility. I bought the SSD during a Courts Singapore sales, at around SGD 81.00 for a 256GB storage size. It makes a whole lot of difference to run SSD on it. I would recommend to upgrade the Mac Mini if you have a standard disk when you first purchase it. A product of 8 years running and running like new with the Samsung 860 EVO SSD. Finally got the chance to revive a slow Mac Mini of late 2012 and I’m very happy with the end result.
